Six Sigma within an Organisation Six Sigma is a disciplined and rigorous process improvement methodology that uses data and statistical analysis to measure and improve the operational performance of any organization.

General Electric (GE), under the direction of Jack Welch, adopted Six Sigma in 1995 and reported $12bn of economies in their first five decades. After detecting GE’s many successes with Six Sigma, other associations embraced six sigma methodology. Belts, Green Belts, and Yellow Belts would form project teams and execute six sigma jobs.

Two methods used in Six Sigma are DMAIC and DMADV. DMAIC stands for Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve and Control and can be used for procedures that are existing. DMADV is utilized for systems that were new, and it stands for Define, Measure, Analyse, Design and Verify. Each phase of DMAIC and DMADV has deliverables while executing a process improvement project to be achieved. DMAIC methodology will help in reducing the variations in a process by identifying the causes by implementing the solution and solving them. After assessing the customer requirements, DMADV methodology will help to design a procedure.
